Where the Money Goes
In the nine years North Bay Elementary has existed, PTO (formerly PTA) has contributed over $300,000 to North Bay Elementary. The money has supported various student programs (like AR prizes, perfect attendance awards); social events (e.g. North Bay Night Out, Grandparent's Breakfast, teacher appreciation luncheons), as well as capital improvement and educational items where tax dollars were lacking (computers, Permethium Boards, play equipment etc.).
Play It Forward
This year's major capital improvement campaign is to enhance the school playgorund with additional equipment and manipulatives. Each week children rotate between 3 play areas. Some areas have become run down or lack equipment to stimulate play- which is so important for social and physical wellness. The PTO has partnered with teachers and students to identify what type of equipment they would like best: now we have to come up with the money to purchase it. Tax dollars are not allocated for these purposes, so the best way to make it happen is by the effort of our parents and community.
Limits on Fundraising
Biloxi Public Schools limit fundraising to two "fundraisers" per year per school- these are fundraisers in the traditional sense- students take orders for a product, the sponsor retains a portion. At North Bay, PTO sponsors the fall fundraiser and the school sponsors the spring fundraiser- the proceeds are retained respectively. Because of these limitations and the monetary need exceeding what one fundraiser typically generates, PTO coordinates a number of various additional money-raising efforts.
Show Your Spirit- Grow Our Playground
Through-out the school year parents, family and friends can purchase items from our spirit store (like t-shirts and lots of new items that are coming) with proceeds benefiting PTO causes. As well, North Bay PTO has registered for many corporate giving/matching programs. These are a GREAT way for everyone to support the effort without spending extra money. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with these opportunities and ensure that you are doing your part in participating as well as recruiting family, friends, co-workers and neighbors to help in the effort.
Accountability
The PTO team of volunteers will be doing their best to keep you informed of our progress. Incentives have been incorporated for some of the programs, like BoxTops, to motivate the students to be involved and help parents remember. We are always looking for new opportunities and ways to keep parents energized and committed to progress. If you have ideas, please email one of the board members and your inquiry will be addressed and answered.
